Varieties and grades
Petals. Loose, whole petals stripped from open flowers and shade-dried within 24 hours of picking to hold colour and aroma. Sorted by hand to remove sepals, stamens and browned petals. Buyers choose them for tea blends, bath salts, cosmetic masks, gulkand and edible decoration; they are the lightest product we ship.
Whole buds. Closed and half-open buds picked early in the morning, dried whole, graded 8–12 mm (standard) or 12–15 mm. Tea blenders and retail packers in the Gulf, Taiwan, Japan and Europe prefer buds for appearance in glass jars and for a slower infusion.
Powder. Petals milled to 40–60 mesh for cosmetic masks, rose sherbet, food colour and gulkand base. Milled to order.
All forms are Rosa damascena from Punjab; no R. centifolia or dyed petals are supplied, and no sulphur is used in drying.

Quality control and testing
Dried Rose Petals & Buds ship on a certificate of analysis from our laboratory or an accredited third-party laboratory in Karachi. Depending on the buyer's use the COA covers moisture, foreign matter, colour, particle or piece size, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), microbiology and, where relevant, the marker compound the buyer prices on. Product is sorted by hand or on screens and, for some grades, Sortex, then held in sealed lined packs in a dark, dry store until loading.
Sampling: composite from at least 10 packs, 1 kg sealed reference kept for 12 months, lot number on the COA, packing list and every pack. An MSDS accompanies every shipment and HACCP procedures cover drying, sorting and packing.
Rose petals are released on a COA covering moisture, foreign matter, broken buds, colour grade, aroma check and, on request, an EU pesticide MRL screen, total plate count, yeast and mould and Salmonella at an accredited laboratory. Drying is in shaded, ventilated sheds at ambient temperature; no sulphur, colourant or fragrance is used, and the COA states this. Each carton is lined and sealed and the lot number links to the harvest week.
How to verify on arrival. Composite-sample at least 10 packs, seal it, and test within 14 days at your own laboratory using the methods named on the COA. Moisture and foreign matter are checked first; heavy metals and microbiology are compared against the COA method limits. Discrepancies reported within 30 days are re-tested on the retained reference sample.

Packing, loading and shipping
Standard packing for dried rose petals & buds is 10 kg / 20 kg cartons, in PE-lined cartons. Each pack is printed or labelled with product, variety or grade, lot number, net weight, origin (Pakistan), exporter and any text the importing country's labelling rules require, and closed with a sewn tear-off tag. Private-label printing is available with artwork two weeks before loading.
A 20ft container carries about 3–4 MT (about 300 x 10 kg per 20ft) loose-stacked on a kraft-paper floor in a brick pattern with a cardboard door wall; a 40ft carries about 6–8 MT (40ft HC). Palletised loads on ISPM 15 heat-treated pallets take roughly 10% less and are used for Europe, East Asia, North America and Australia where the container is unloaded by forklift. Desiccant bags are added for humid destinations on request. Every stuffing is photographed from empty box to applied seal and the photos go to the buyer the same day with the packing list. Full figures for every product are in the container loading guide.
Storage and shelf life. Stored in sealed, lined cartons in a dark, air-conditioned room below 22 °C, petals and buds hold colour and aroma for 18 months; colour fades in light and humidity. Powder keeps 12 months.
| Container | Net cargo | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 20ft standard | 3–4 MT | about 300 x 10 kg per 20ft; loose on kraft-paper floor |
| 40ft / 40ft HC | 6–8 MT (40ft HC) | Weight-limited on dense seed; volume-limited on light seed |
| Palletised (any size) | ≈ 10% less | ISPM 15 pallets, shrink-wrapped and strapped |
| LCL / air | 100 kg by air or LCL | Higher per-kg rate; used for trial lots |

HS classification. Dried rose petals and buds are HS 0603.90 (cut flowers and flower buds, dried); rose powder for food is sometimes classified by importing customs under 1211.90 (plants used in perfumery or pharmacy) and we state both on the invoice when asked. EU and UK food-use imports enter as food of plant origin with a COA; Australia requires a BICON permit and treats dried flowers as a plant product; the US importer files FDA prior notice for food use. Duty is zero in the EU (GSP+) and low elsewhere.
Season, new crop and availability
Single harvest April–May in Punjab; drying and sorting take four to six weeks and new-crop petals and buds ship from June. Stock is held in sealed cartons in a dark, air-conditioned store so that colour holds through the year, and prior-crop is graded down by colour and sold as such.
Tea blenders and cosmetic makers usually contract in June–July for the year's volume; retail packers buy through the year from stock. Reserve new-crop grade A buds by March.
The availability calendar shows every product month by month, and prior-crop lots are always described as such on the pro forma.

Price factors and how to get today's rate
Kohenoor does not publish a price for dried rose petals & buds because a price is only meaningful for a specific lot, grade, pack, quantity and date. A firm FOB Karachi or CIF quote in USD per kg or per MT comes back within 24 hours of an enquiry and is held for 7–14 days. What moves the number, in order of size:
- Crop year and timing. Pre-harvest bookings are fixed and usually lowest; spot prices rise in a short crop or when prior-crop stock runs down before new crop. Difference between the two can be 15–20%.
- Grade and purity. Whole buds cost more than petals, the 12–15 mm bud grade more than 8–12 mm, and colour grade A (deep pink, new crop) more than prior-crop grade B; powder is priced on the petal grade plus milling. Air freight per kg dominates small orders, so LCL is cheaper above 300 kg.
- Packing. 25 kg loose bags are the base; 50 kg is slightly cheaper per kg; 10 kg, cartons, private label and palletising add 2–8%.
- Quantity. Each additional container in one contract is priced 2–5% lower; LCL lots cost 20–40% more per kg because inspection, documents and handling are the same for 2 MT as for 20 MT.
- Incoterm. FOB Karachi is the base; CIF adds freight and insurance at the current line rate for your port; road delivery to Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia is priced per truck.
- Tests and treatment. Third-party COA, residue or aflatoxin panels, SGS inspection, fumigation and seed treatment are itemised at cost.
Samples. 200 g to 1 kg from the offered lot is free against courier charges (typically USD 40–90) and goes out with the current report. Larger trial lots are invoiced at the container rate. The full logic, MOQ table and sample policy are on seed prices and MOQ.
How this compares
Tea and cosmetic buyers compare rose petals with sea buckthorn and licorice as botanical ingredients from Pakistan; all three ship in cartons or bales by LCL and carry a COA rather than a germination report.

|---|---|---|---|
| Form | Petals, buds, powder | Whole dried berries | Whole root, cut, powder |
| Main use | Tea, cosmetics, confectionery | Tea, supplements, oil | Extract, tea, confectionery |
| MOQ | 100 kg | 200 kg | 1 x 20ft (LCL 3 MT) |

Frequently asked questions
How many kg of dried rose petals fit in a container?
Petals are very light: about 3–4 MT in a 20ft and 6–8 MT in a 40ft high-cube in 10 kg cartons. Buds pack denser, up to 10 MT in a 40ft HC. Most buyers order 100 kg to 2 MT by LCL or air freight.
Are the petals food grade?
Yes. Petals are dried without sulphur or colourant and can be tested for pesticide residues and microbiology on request. Cosmetic-grade buyers usually take the same lot; tea blenders in the EU ask for a pesticide screen, which we arrange at an accredited lab.
Which HS code applies to dried rose petals?
060390 (cut flowers and buds, dried). Rose powder for food is sometimes classified under 121190 by the importing customs; we state both on the invoice when asked.
Can you supply small trial quantities?
Yes. MOQ is 100 kg, which goes by courier or air freight in 10 kg cartons. Samples of 200–500 g are free against courier charges.
Which rose species do you supply?
Rosa damascena only, grown in Punjab. We do not supply R. centifolia, dyed petals or blended lots, and the botanical name is stated on the phytosanitary certificate and COA.
How are the petals dried?
Shade-dried in ventilated sheds at ambient temperature within 24 hours of picking, without sulphur, heat or colourant, then hand-sorted. This keeps the pink colour and natural aroma that tea and cosmetic buyers grade on.
What bud sizes are available?
8–12 mm is the standard grade for tea blends; 12–15 mm is selected on request for retail jars and gift packs at a higher price. Broken buds are limited to 5%.
How long do dried rose petals keep?
18 months in sealed lined cartons in a dark, air-conditioned store below 22 °C. Colour fades in light and humidity, so keep cartons closed until use. Powder keeps 12 months.
Do you need a phytosanitary certificate for dried rose petals?
Most countries accept dried petals as a processed plant product with a COA and certificate of origin, but the EU, Australia and several Gulf states ask for a phytosanitary certificate; we issue one with every shipment to be safe.
When is new-crop rose available?
From June after the April–May harvest, drying and sorting. Grade A deep-pink buds sell out first; reserve by March. Prior-crop stock is colour-graded and sold as grade B.
